Errol Milner Clifford 2006-2009

Errol Milner Clifford was born with a significant heart defect and a cognitive disability that prevented him from walking or talking. As we grieved the child we had anticipated, Errol’s full-bodied smile and irrepressible laugh turned our sorrow into joy, and taught us that many of the best things in life are unexpected. Inspired by Errol’s delightful spirit, friends, family, and neighbors rallied to support our family’s significant emotional, physical, and financial needs, through countless acts of selfless generosity. When Errol’s courageous heart finally failed him on December 23, 2009 we were left numb with grief. In these dark hours we listen hopefully for the echoes of Errol’s brilliant laugh. This blog is the story (starting from present and working back to Errol's birth) of the life and times of the amazing Errol Clifford.

Surgery

Errol's surgery is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, August 6th. During part of tomorrow's surgery, Dr. Hines will stop Errol's heart, perform a procedure, and then restart Errol's heart. The whole operation should last about four hours, and Dr. Hines made the whole thing sound like a cake walk, but we are totally on edge. Errol, of course, had one of his happiest evenings in memory. Think of Errol tomorrow.

I'm not really the kind of person to pray, since I don't subscribe to any religion. But if there was ever a time to pray, it's now for Errol, and I am.

You all are in our thoughts today and every day. Errol is a strong little fellow!

Most wonderful Jonathan, Cary, Owen and ERROL. As you guys head off to a day at the hospital (well, Owen gets to go to camp), I head off to the grocery store, home depot, for a bike ride with roman, and maybe paint some on the front porch. Everyday stuff, whatever unfolds, with the exception of time visiting you. It will not feel like every day, though, as every instant I will feel the tight squeeze of my own heart (that other heart that feels everything) working so hard to send energy to Errol, whose heart of love is so incredibly strong that it must help his heart of blood and muscle. with so much love, Betsy
